Sometimes Daily

Amanda Congdon is set to return to the Internet . . . errr . . . well, I suppose she has never left, but she’s back beginning tomorrow with her daily Sometimes Daily vlog. I can’t wait.

Fr those of you who haven’t followed Amanda, she began as the hostess of Rocketboom, then drove cross-country in her hybrid, released some homespun videos, blogged for ABC for a year, and has been MIA (kind of) since.

Sometimes Daily is her much-anticipated return!

Kickin’ It With Rocketboom

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

In the past I have extolled the virtues of Rocketboom here at eCache. It’s been a while since then. Amanda left in a bitter falling out with Andrew. Joanne was hired, and while I have nothing against her, she didn’t have the same presence that AC did.

I still tune in to Rocketboom, but it is not a daily thing, more like once a week or so I look over and see if anything interests me.

The other day I received a message that Andrew is now following me on Twitter. I thought that was kind of neat. I wonder what I wrote that caught his attention. Hmmm . . .

Anyhow, before I clear the iPod tonight, I am running through some podcasts that are sitting here. This is the kind of RB that made me first like it so many years ago. And Joanne has definitely come into her own.

Enjoy!

Dot . . . Dot . . . Dot . . .

. . . Shauna is no longer hosting Scriggity. That is a shame. I hope Drew finds a better replacement than Andrew did at Rocketboom . . . Speaking of RB, former host Amanda Congdon’s vlog is now a daily at ABC News . . . Enlighten shares with us that Carla Katz’s company Pablo Neruda is named for a communist. Splendid! . . . What does Bill Gates know about education and why is he testifying before Congress? To show how out-of-touch Mr. Gates is with education, he has called on Congress to partner with business and educators to reform education. Mr. Gates, the federal government has no role in education. Use one of your spiffy computers to look that up. Sheesh . . . I made Spicy Sesame Noodles with Peanut Sauce. Very good stuff, methinks. But where does McCormick get off charging more than $80/lb. for sesame seeds? Outrageous! I know the local bagel store isn’t paying that for my sesame bagels . . . ah, no one recognized the cache in last week’s video. Do you recognize the cachers? . . . I guess New Jersey Democrats are not in favor of open records given they are spending our tax dollars to fight federal subpoenas. The budget is public, folks. Don’t hide your greed at my expense. Open the damn books . . . Just today, NJ Chief Justic Zazzali wrote in another case: “Openness is a hallmark of democracy — a sacred maxim of our government“. How come the legislators don’t understand? . . . PoliticsNJ was sold to the NY Observer. It has brought on former NJ Governor Whitman and the crooked former US Senator Robert Toricelli as bloggers. The Torch’s first post shows how wrong he is about politics. As we have outlined here any number of times, moving the presidential primary is a bad idea . . .

Katie & the News

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

Katie Couric hosted the CBS Evening News for the first time this evening.  Supposedly this is a big deal.  I celebrated by dining with my wife and daughter and discussing the joy we shared as Beetle was the line leader today and was able to help the pastor during chapel for the opening of her school.  Not bad for a two-year old, eh?

I forgot all about Ms. Couric until I read Drudge later in the evening.  The linked article spoke of Couric’s attire.  Yawn . . .

Note to CBS . . . folks aren’t getting their news via your outlet any longer.  Did you see Hot Air today?  That’s news.

All Things Must Pass

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
None of lifes strings can last
So, I must be on my way
And face another day

Unfortunately, Rocketboom has undergone a major change. Amanda Congdon, the quirky news anchor of the daily vlog has “left” the show.

What left means depends on whom you speak with. Amanda says she was fired. Andrew says she forced him to change the show so she could move to L.A.. It’s a classic he said/she said moment.

Fred Graver, executive producer of VH1’s Best Week Ever, provides his take on the falling out on Jarvis’ BuzzMachine today.

None of us are so good at this as to warrant this kind of public display of bullshit. What I’m obsessed with right now is feeling that two kids in a dorm somewhere in San Diego are going to release something on YouTube that’s going to blow us ALL away… Amanda, Andrew, myself, Jeff… we all have to be ready for the next generation of web media — something that’ll be as powerful as “Real World” was to MTV: the thing that made Martha Quinn look like… well, Martha Quinn.

‘Tis true.

One of the things that I have learned about myself as I have aged is that I do not like change. The fun of RB was Amanda’s quirkiness. I certainly did not tune in for the politics as both she and Andrew are politically opposite of me. The show was refreshing. It was edgy. It was fun.

But like all tales of fame and fortune, the quest to “have it all” brought down the magic. Rocketboom will continue and I have no doubt Amanda will show up elsewhere. But the magic that capture our hearts and mind are gone. Like when Shelly Long left Cheers, the show continued, but the smart play between her character and Sam was over. The audience loses when stuff like this happens.

For now, Joanne Colan is sitting in the chair. Today marked the return of RB after the 10-day break that has resulted in the change. Time on task may improve the product, but if one thinks that a pirate patch to a silly necklace is a trade-up, well, we may have seen the future of RB.
Best of luck everyone.
