New Jersey state senator Jeff Van Drew kept a room of 100 fourth graders waiting for a half hour today. These students were already missing their physical education, music, and art time. It’s not the first disappointment Van Drew provided these students either. This was a make-up assembly for a scheduled time a few weeks ago. Van Drew missed that event altogether.
It’s not like the New Jersey state Assembly has a full schedule today.

No scheduled proceedings today
The part-time politician (making a full-time salary) did not respect the children of Vineland. Remember that next time Van Drew talks about fighting for District 1’s children.

Jeff “I Sponsor Every Bill” Van Drew did not wait long before he made his mark in the state senate. The feelgood senator will sponsor Chloe and Samantha’s Law. This law will require all televisions sold in New Jersey to carry a warning about the dangers of falling televisions and safety procedures to secure them.
Ugh!
Why is it government’s role to mandate safety in one’s home?
Sure, there have been some unfortunate accidents where televisions have fallen on young children. Would a warning label had made a difference? Doubtful.
Even so, government will overstep its role if it passes this bill. What will be next? If I purchase a case of soup (my mother purchased a case of black bean soup when I was a boy) would it too need a label? A set of encyclopedia? A large box of dry detergent for the clothes washer? Feelgood legislation, particularly that which is also anti-business, is not what is needed from government.
Senator Van Drew, the volume of bills you have sponsor (click link at bottom of page) needs a warning label, don’t you think?

. . . and no, we’re not discussing his oft-rumored skirt chasing.
In November, New Jersey held its state senatorial election. In the First District, where I live, Republican incumbent Nick Asselta lost to Democrat state assemblyman Jeff Van Drew. I refused to endorse either candidate and voted for neither.
Asselta is unfit to work for the public. Long ago he tried to circumvent the process to acquire drugs using his political position to do so.
So, what does a defeated career politician do in New Jersey? He sells himself.
Right at the end of the lame duck session, Republican Asselta crossed party lines to join Governor Corzine to add a half billion dollars to state spending next year. Why would Asselta do this?
Asselta was appointed to the state Board of Public Utilities. That position will raise Asselta’s taxpayer-funded salary from $49,000 as an ineffective state senator to $125,000 to sit on this board.
Asselta represented a district that included 10% of the special needs districts in New Jersey. He sold them out for his own personal gain. Even Jeff “I Sponsor Every Bill” Van Drew and Nelson “Little Buddy” Albano voted No on this.
Asselta is the poster boy of New Jersey politics.

Yes, today is Election Day and again I was on top of the world. What a wonderful day!
In the eCache household, we celebrate Election Day. It is so important and we relish participating in the democratic process. What a positive symbol of our nation.
From the moment I wake through the rest of the day, I am on cloud nine. I understand most do not share my joy. Despite the downpour this morning, I was smiling ear-to-ear.
I wore my new patriotic bow tie. I had kept forgetting to order it last year for Flag Day, but I had it for today and perhaps I’ll break it out again on Veterans Day (although I’ll be out geocaching).
As promised, I voted a resounding No on all four ballot questions. I took Fritz in with me and as Beetle finished pushing the Cast Vote button for Gert, she came into my booth to do the same. We passed on voting for a state senator. Neither Sen. Asselta nor Assemblyman Van Drew is worthy of a vote. I voted for Donohue and Clark for Assembly and Grucio (my boss) and Roberts for freeholders.
As we entered, the election officers recognized us and commented on how our children are growing. Neither has missed an election yet. We posed for our photograph as we always do afterwards. The polling place was relatively busy when we went and it was not convenient to get the booths in the shot. The library at the school has been re-arranged and a bookshelf is now in the way when there is a line. Our neighbors and friends were all about. We love living where we do.
Happy Election Day, everyone!

How can a grocery store be out of buttermilk? . . . Gotta love trolls. They make the world go round. Right BGT? . . . Well, I am rooting for the Rockies, but expect the Red Sox to win (yeah, I know, a little late on the prediction) . . . I am surprised that Van Drew’s campaign funds are not making more of a splash. I really thought that circumventing campaign finance law was illegal; in New Jersey it is business as usual . . . It’s nice to see Roberto back in the blogging saddle . . . It dawned on me this morning as I taught my students how to use parentheses in mathematics, that my hobby and my vocation are merging . . . If you’re not a Thomas Hawk fan, do yourself a favor and look at his photography . . . I don’t have much to say about logbook etiquette, but not to write a detailed log because there is “less chance to be spotted by a muggle if you’re not writing a page of comments” is nonsensical. If the geocache is placed in a location that positively impresses the seeker, writing in the logbook can be done leisurely . . . Considering Rochester in November . . . Tomorrow will probably be the worst day of the school year. Halloween Friday has been every year . . . It’s been more than six years, but I just had a nicotine fit . . . Why is it that Super Cuts expects my telephone number in order to cut my hair? . . . Hmmm . . . tonight’s fortune cookie: A modest man never talks of himself . . .
