Pooped

Just tired.  Lots on my plate right now.  Am re-designing the top level of the domain.  I don’t like it right now, but until Social Thing accepts me, this what I am working on.  I would love to customize Social Thing to my domain at the top level.  Would be a wonderful thing.

Phillies are 0-2 to start the season.  Deflates my enthusiasm for the season, even though I haven’t really gotten going yet.

eCache Update

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

I have noted that I have not been sharing as much via my link blog the last couple days. According to Google, I have read 4940 articles and shared 292 of them via the link blog. I know I had hit 200 shared items at just about the point I read 2000 articles. That means the last 3000 articles found only 92 worthy of sharing.

Some of that is that I got behind in my reading. That usually happens mid-week, but this week it happened at the end of the week. Normally, I am verry up on things during the weekend, but we have been very busy this weekend, so my reading built up. I just finished catching up and some of it was scanned. How many articles about Amanda Marcotte am I going to link to from two days ago?

Photos
The Photo Album is getting a lot of hits. In order to comment, however, one needs to register. I apologize for that. I just haven’t figured out how to keep the spammers and auto-bots off without doing it that way. Registering is easy. All you need is a valid e-mail address.

While I do not make resolutions, I kind of adopted an idea this year that so far I have kept: I post a photo-of-the-day daily. Feel free to drop the feed for the Photo Album in your Google Reader, aggregator, Firefox, etc.

Discussion
The Boards remain a one-way conversation. :( That too requires registration. phpBB may not have been the best choice as spammers are quite adept at negotiating it. So, it had to be locked down.

I tried to seed some discussion. Some folks have e-mailed me about my posts. I certainly have no issue conversing via e-mail, but would like to see the discussion area populated. Would it help to have more variety in topics?

Some other projects have not moved forward recently. Things have been busy and with Fritz’s arrival expected soon, it is unlikely some of the other things planned will see the light of day before the summer. We shall see.

My efforts of finding another theme that will be more dynamic than what I am using while remaining a clean look has been unsuccessful. For the time being, I am satisfied where this blog stands. I will re-visit this at a later date.

Also, in case you missed it, I have added the last five articles shared via the link blog to the sidebar here.  They are hyperlinked so you can read them directly, if a headline grabs your attention.  In addition, I restored the last five comments made on the blog for those who are following particular discussions.

If there is anything else I can provide for you, dear reader, please let me know.

Whoosh!

I decided to remedy a little thing here that has been bothering me. At the bottom of each page is supposed to be a link to Previous Entries. It’s been missing for several months. I know it stemmed from tweaks I made a while back.

Well, I made a huge mistake that I compounded quickly. Yikes!

After taking a deep breath, I thought through the files I had overwritten and quickly copied over these files from other blogs I run. :)

In the process, I found what caused the issue that caused the Previous Entries link to disappear. The Related Posts that used to display with each post is gone. I wasn’t thrilled with the results of that anyhow, so now things are a bit cleaner here. Best of all, the blog is visible again. Yup, for about five minutes things were gone. It was quite heartwrenching.

You can’t have egg, bacon, spam and sausage without the spam

Spam, spam, spam, spam, spam … spam, spam, spam, spam … lovely spam, wonderful spam …

The reason I have run my own e-mail server for the past eight years is to have the flexibility to shut off any specific e-mail address should the spammers harvest it. Over the years, I have had to do that very few times.

Tonight, I shut down two addresses: bob@ladow.net and legal@ladow.net. I believe the bob@ address is posted somewhere on this site. If that is an address you use to contact me, please find another address to do so. I only have somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 active e-mail addresses. If you cannot find one, leave a comment here on the blog and I will receive it and get in touch.

The legal@ address was included in the feed from this site. I think I have remedied that.

So, spammers, go to hell.

Back Soon

Things have been quiet as we are on vacation.  That will change soon.  I have updates to share, but things have been busy.
We’ll be right back!
