What Am I Listening to Now?

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Over the last several days I have broken out ol’ Silver. He had been sitting lonesome all summer. I first got caught up on a slew of podcasts I took half of June and all of July off from. Then I began with a stack, selected for no rhyme or reason, of CDs. The following music has been floating through my ears this week.

  • Grateful Dead Two From the Vault
  • Tom Petty Full Moon Fever
  • Dave Matthews Band Under the Table and Dreaming
  • Maurice Andre The Pachelbel Canon (and others)
  • Madonna Take a Bow (single)
  • Various Alligator Stomp (Cajun & Zydeco Classics)
  • Sarah Vaughn Brazilian Romance
  • Lou Reed Transformer
  • Neil Young Rust Never Sleeps
  • Peter, Paul & Mary No Easy Walk to Freedom
  • Jimmy Cliff  The Harder They Come (soundtrack)
  • Grateful Dead Oxford Plains Speedway (2 July 1988)
  • Aerosmith Get a Grip
  • Donovan Greatest Hits
  • Cream Disraeli Gears
  • David Crosby If I Could Only Remember My Name
  • Crosby-Nash Another Stoney Evening
  • Harry Connick, Jr. When Harry Met Sally . . . (soundtrack)
  • The Commitments Vol. 2 (soundtrack)
  • Shawn Colvin Steady On
  • John Coltrane My Favorite Things
  • Eric Clapton 461 Ocean Boulevard

Journey Through the Past

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

When the winter rains
come pourin’ down
On that new home of mine,
Will you think of me
and wonder if I’m fine?
Will your restless heart
come back to mine
On a journey thru the past.
Will I still be in your eyes
and on your mind?

I was looking for a photograph; I found a web site.  I knew somewhere in my archives I had my music trading site.  I found it and put it up as a reminder.

A reminder of how out-of-hand a hobby can get.  This was what the site looked like in 1999.  By the time I dismantled it in 2001, well, it was a lot larger.

I also found a back-up of my e-mail from mid-1999 to January 2000.  Scary.  Very scary.  The number of trades I was involved in, the trees I ran.  I would post at midnight a b+p special and then spend the rest of the night burning them and putting them in the mail.

I am an obsessive personality and this is a reminder to at least obsess without accumulating.  Wow!

Some of the links are certainly broken.  Nevertheless, enjoy poking around.  And no, I no longer trade shows.

I need to become more organized for these hunts.

This evening was the annual All City String Concert at Memorial School in Vineland, NJ. This is the showcase of all the students who play string instruments from grade 4 through 12. It is a nice show each year. My students are always so eager to play an instrument. It’s interesting to see who keeps with it as the years roll along. :)

Anyhow, after dinner as I was preparing to go (Fritz smeared tomato sauce all over me so I had to change) I recall some hunt about a live concert. I didn’t remember the particulars, but thought I needed a shot of people clapping at a concert. All night I concentrated getting a shot of the folks in front of me clapping. The lighting was rough, I was in the back, and I only had my little camera. I had the GPS too, but it didn’t feel right to raise it for the shot. Thankfully, that wasn’t required. ;)

Anyhow, the clapping I see was not needed. Ah, so the folks around can speak of what a weird guy I am. It wouldn’t be the first time.

The music seems to be getting better each year.

Hey Bo Diddley

It is with sadness that I note the passing of Bo Diddley. Bo Diddley was a musical giant.

Bo, rest peacefully.

Line of the Day

Michael Arrington wrote today over at TechCrunch:

The days of paying for recorded music are nearly over. And there’s nothing Napster can do to change that.

How ironic!
