Anyone with a toddler probably knows of the Wiggles. Beetle is a fan and she dances and sings along with the four from Down Under. This fondness was why I paid attention to the blurb in yesterday’s paper announcing that tickets for the Philadelphia shows coming in August.
I am no fan of the concert scene these days. Even worse is the price charged for tickets. Ticketmaster perfected the convenience fee. Sheesh. Today I stumbled across something I have still not understood.
The blurb mentioned the web site where one could order tickets. I followed the link to investigate. Tickets for the shows run from$13 to $78. Even though the tickets are not on sale yet, I clicked through to see what the process is. I was amazed at what I saw.
ComcastTIX.com has a fee to pick up the tickets at the Will-Call window. Traditionally, there is a charge for the venue to hold one’s tickets. Presumably, that is because someone needs to be on hand to distribute the ticket the day of the show. It’s a stretch, but I recognize there is history to this charge. Comcast wants $3.50 to do so.
What amazed me was the $2.50 charge to print the tickets on my own printer. What? Why is there a charge to do this? What service, product, or good is being provided for me to spend my own resources? We may or may not attend this show. I am not inclined to follow through next week. Gert may think differently. We will not be in the first 10 rows so not enough of the audience will be behind me for my liking. And if I am in attendance, I do not know if I will be able to get into Dorothy the Dinosaur enough to forget that I will be charged to print my own ticket. Brrrrr . . . grrrrr . . . that is just wrong!
Former PINK FLOYD frontman ROGER WATERS has rolled out five fall U.S. solo dates, starting with a September 9th gig in Mansfield, Massachusetts and wrapping October 5th in L.A. The large gap suggests a full-fledged North American run is in the works. Waters will reportedly perform the epic Floyd album, The Dark Side of the Moon, in its entirety for the second half of these shows. In addition, the pioneering rocker will tour internationally this summer.
This is the second musician I really like who has been in news the last week. Both have politics radically different than mine. I love the music and respect their lyrics.
Anyhow, if Roger tours, perhaps I will not make the mistake with seating I did last time. As I was getting back into the scene then, I had adopted the policy of keeping the throng behind me. If I could not sit in the first 10 rows, I did not attend. I misread the seating chart for that last show and had to deal with a lot of extraneous discussion during the best part of the show.
This is the best I have been able to come up with. There are many more shows, but because of age, a foggy memory, lack of evidence, etc., I am unable to document these here.
There was a time when I lived in the past. I was there, I guess I know what that is supposed to mean. In the last number of years, that has not been the case, however.
Interestingly, the last couple days have been a trek down memory lane. Confident of my feed now and beginning to round out this site has had me looking through lots of old files. I have been rounding out some of the background stuff in the FAQ and added a Concerts area.
On former personal sites I have tried to come up with a way of dealing with the concerts. I had wanted to make this searchable et al., but given I haven't gotten myself up to speed on php yet to make the calls, I finally found a suitable manner to display the list. I'll root around and scan some ticket stubs eventually.
It occurs to me in re-vsiting all these shows also is how many different girls I went to shows with. Perhaps I wasn't quite the loser I always thought I was.
Today (actually the 11th, but it was a Saturday) is the fifth anniversary of a very special day. I had just purchased my first laptop and flew to Tampa. I never thought I would have the opportunity, but Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young were going out on the road again. This was a dream concert for me. Being a huge Neil fan, I longed to see the foursome live. I missed my chance at Live Aid, despite having tickets. So, when it was announced there was going to be a tour, I sought a single ticket to Tampa.
