Another guy obsessed with statistics . . . Dana Perino earned my respect recently. She stated that she left tv news when she decided she could not stick a microphone in the face of a mother whose daughter was murdered. Bravo! . . . Here’s a guy who spells out why he’s a conservative. I am not certain I agree with every point, but I applaud him putting it forth . . . Amanda is back blogging. She found Tumblr. eCache readers have known about Tumblr for a long time . . . A very interesting discussion about children’s online rights and whether or not they can reclaim data when they reach adulthood . . . It is truly a sad day: Will is shuttering BBT. No more executive games . . . 60% of this district’s population skipped school on Good Friday . . . Lent is over and I ordered my first soda in 40 days. I switched it immediately for Gert’s lemonade. I did not enjoy the soda at all, seriously . . . I am certain my former prep school teachers thought differently, but two playwrights they introduced me to have recently declared their conservatism. First was David Mamet (American Buffalo and Sexual Perversity in Chicago among many others) and now Tom Stoppard (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead). Go figure . . .

Restaurantica

Monday, February 18th, 2008

The other day I spotted a link in Morton Fox’s del.icio.us feed for Restaurantica.  This is a restaurant review site.  It is attractive.  I am in the market for such a site since DinnerBuzz faded and the reviews at GroupRecipes.com don’t do much for me.

I submitted one review, but it is unlikely I will continue.  There is no RSS feed for submitted reviews.  That means my content is locked on their server.  My readers will need to go to their site to read the review.  With a feed, it can be aggregated into my Tumblr feed, where one can read all my content in one place.

My Tumblr feed is one of the things I want to address this year.  I am maxed out with 10 feeds, yet I have more than that.  I can daisy chain them, but I prefer not to.  I am working on developing my own lifeline feed so I am not beholden to another service.

Service is another reason why Restaurantica is likely not going to be a place for me.  Not that I asked them for this, but I submitted my idea about RSS, I received a canned message stating it had been received.  No biggy there.  But the message also guaranteed that I would here from someone within 24 hours regarding my idea.  We are three days now.  Not my kind of service.

How can a grocery store be out of buttermilk? . . . Gotta love trolls. They make the world go round. Right BGT? . . . Well, I am rooting for the Rockies, but expect the Red Sox to win (yeah, I know, a little late on the prediction) . . . I am surprised that Van Drew’s campaign funds are not making more of a splash. I really thought that circumventing campaign finance law was illegal; in New Jersey it is business as usual . . . It’s nice to see Roberto back in the blogging saddle . . . It dawned on me this morning as I taught my students how to use parentheses in mathematics, that my hobby and my vocation are merging . . . If you’re not a Thomas Hawk fan, do yourself a favor and look at his photography . . . I don’t have much to say about logbook etiquette, but not to write a detailed log because there is “less chance to be spotted by a muggle if you’re not writing a page of comments” is nonsensical. If the geocache is placed in a location that positively impresses the seeker, writing in the logbook can be done leisurely . . . Considering Rochester in November . . . Tomorrow will probably be the worst day of the school year. Halloween Friday has been every year . . . It’s been more than six years, but I just had a nicotine fit . . . Why is it that Super Cuts expects my telephone number in order to cut my hair? . . . Hmmm . . . tonight’s fortune cookie: A modest man never talks of himself  . . .

The Streak

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

The streak is over.  I was just five days short of having at least one post each day for a year.  I could have post-dated something or written up something about yesterday, but I selected not to.  The streak is somewhat of a burden and I made a couple posts during the year that was nothing more than filler.  It seems a hollow thing and it felt right to cut it off.

Yesterday was a BIG BIG day, but I was so wiped out when I arrived home, I had no desire to sit down and document it.  Rather, I enjoyed sleeping.  The streak is over because I preferred to sleep than write.

Anyhow, I thought I would at least acknowledge the damn thing as I toss it aside . . .

Long Posts

Friday, April 13th, 2007

It’s interesting. I have had a post in my head for some time now. Recently I read something that basically opened the door for this post. I have spent several hours (approximately 11) on the post. I have another hour or two, I suspect, to complete it with ensuring the documentation is perfect as well as the grammar.

But as I researched a point I was making, I re-visited a bunch of old posts and I just lost interest. While this post is quite interesting, it dredges up some old stuff and frankly, it just isn’t worth it to make the point I was making.

When I walked away from the local geocaching community nearly three years ago, I truly left. The trends, the actions, et al. are noticed and I occasionally comment on them, but these things do not affect me any longer for the most part. Another crappy cache? So be it. A snide remark? Turn the other cheek.

I have a book I read aloud to each of my groups daily. Today, the main character commented that he had nothing to say to his uncle at all. They walked all the way to a pond and back saying nothing. Modeling the text-to-shelf reflection, I shared that I often feel that way. I am no good with small talk. That is why geocaching events never thrilled me.

Every now and then there’s an occasion I would welcome being heard on an issue. eCache provides the perfect forum for that. This other post will go to the bin a lot of other posts have gone over the years.  Doing so, I suspect, will save a lot of turmoil for others.
