Well, this day certainly had gotten on in a hurry. It seemed like just a moment ago I was enjoying the sunrise over the Maurice River. The sun was dropping in the west and I still had a couple more caches here to find . . . forget the others that were on the schedule.

I made it back to the truck from bushwhacking for Rob’s caches. I avoided the puddles on the road I was on and soon came to the power lines. This cache seemed to be just across the way. I headed over. Before I knew it, I had driven by. This is a narrow stretch and turning around was not meant to be.

I backed up enough and got out. The cache was probably the easiest I found today; an unmistakenable pile of sticks behind a tree.

It’s been a while since I have seen a coffee can for a container. This one was rusted thoroughly on the outside, but amazingly, the inside seemed to be in good shape.

I read the cache description while here. It seems like the hider lives on the other side of this road. Had it not been in the description, I would not have realized this hooked up with civilization.

I did not spend much time as it was time to get a move on. Turning around was equally difficult here so I backed up some more. I eventually found a wide enough space to do so.

I do not believe I ever read this cache description or logs before. Once I was at On the way to P-Pop’s…, I decided to see what was closest. I thought I was seeking Turkey Encounter. Sure enough, this pops up. I began reading the description and all started making sense; Rob took the wrong road to a cache and dropped these two.

Looking over things, folks had trouble finding the cache. Some who found the first hadn’t done this one. It was only .3 miles further, so why not?

I am happy I had found the correct road as this one is not driveable, imo. It closed in tightly. I saw many horseshoe prints in the ground. They looked fairly recent so this area must get some traffic.

After circling around for a bit at the bend and finding nothing, knowing the last cache had been off for me, and that others had trouble with this, I looked at the clue. It’s a good thing it was there because there was no way I was going to find this cache on this day using coordinates.

Over the years I have had trouble with Rob’s caches. Our GPS units, style, etc. just do not seem to mesh. I like the guy, but his caches frustrate me. I just do not seem to be in on what he is trying to accomplish. Anyhow, I found the cache more than 50′ away from where my GPS displayed the coordinates to be.

I signed in took a couple photographs and hoofed it back to the truck. (more…)

Hmmm . . . I was just back here a week or so ago. I am not certain why I didn’t continue to hit these. Oh well . . . another day, another way.

This cache, while frustrating, helped me a bit with my frustration at Mission Impossible. The coordinates were 45′ (and rising) off for me. Online logging definitely assisted me finding this cache. After walking in circles for a bit, I broke out the logs. Chris-Gypsee mentioned disregarding the coordinates and just looking for a cache. Audrey mentioned driving right up to it. Without that, I would have never found this. The coordinates had me away from here.

I apparently took the correct road to P-Pop’s. That, however, is not the correct road to this cache. All was going along swimmingly until the needle went hard left. Hmmm . . . I parked and left the truck on the right road and bushwhacked over.

Once I found the cache, I began thinking that perhaps the coordinates for Mission Impossible were off for me too. It would not be the first time that Rob’s GPS and mine did not agree.

I left a pencil made by 4th grade students in honor of Sharon Bortle, who was recently slained. I took nothing.

I took a few photographs and signed in. Then I left. (more…)

After getting back to success with Ocean Spray, it was a short dash into here for this cache. This puzzle was trivial to solve. The container is pretty much what I expected, only smaller.

There was one tree that looked promising as I awaited the GPS to settle. No dice. But about 20 feet away was another similar tree. Success!

Not much to say. There appeared to be a cellar hole of a former structure nearby. Other than that, this was a nondescript area. (more…)

Well, after the adventure out in Menantico Ponds, I stopped by the local library to pick up a book for my SIL. I was tired and achy. I pondered ending the day. I decided to run down 49 to pick up the group of caches here.

I had solved this puzzle when it came out. I kept lumping it in with those off of First Avenue thinking I’d do them all at once. I believe, I will have to check on it, that there was a dashpoint here long ago.

Anyhow, a neat old bog. wigoweb did a nice job describing the history of the area.

I was perplexed for a moment. I stepped off the trail and did not find the cache. :( I went back up on the trail. I couldn’t remember if I had the corrected coordinates or the original ones in the GPS. As I thought about that for a sec, I looked down and saw a spot that looked promising. It was.

An ammo box! Woo hoo! Today I had found some little plastic box (makeup perhaps), a scented moist towlette container, a soaked film canister, broken Gladware, a mustard bottle, and a nano. An ammo box was welcomed.

I actually left a necktie here. Isn’t it dashing? At the time of this cache I was listening to a Legion of Mary show. Man o man, is that a good one! If you get the chance, listen to 75-05-22. Little Sunflower is the best thing I have heard in a long time. Awesome!

And just like that, this cache was done. (more…)
