Toronto Star Takes Shot @ US Politicians

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

The disdain for politicians is ubiquitous. While reading an article in the Toronto Star (of all places) about Roger Goodell, the new NFL commissioner, I found this gem:

Goodell is the son of a U.S. senator from New York, so he obviously was brought up learning to deceive people with a smile.

Wow! Son of a senator so he learned how to deceive. This is quite telling. There is nothing in Charles Goodell’s (his father) bio that indicates deception was common. Yet, the cheap shot is so easily taken.

Public service is no longer an honorable profession, it seems.

In context, the shot doesn’t even seem accurate. Despite Goodell “not saying anything”, he did not deceive the audience; he just didn’t indulge it.

Bah!

Joe Buck Stupidity of the Day

Sunday, January 14th, 2007

My disdain for Joe Buck is complete. As the worst baseball announcer ever (with all due respects to the Philllies’ Chris Wheeler) he can actually make me tolerate Tim McCarver at times. That’s power.

The Slamma-lamma-ding-dong! Kid just demonstrated how bad he is. Today he is announcing the Seahawks-Bears playoff game with Troy Aikman. He was discussing the length of the cleat Shaun Alexander wore when this gem came out of his mouth:

I wish I knew which was longer 3/8, a half, 5/8.

You played in the NFL Troy, which is longer?

Ugh!

I once again call for the termination of Joe Buck from Fox.

Thank You Seattle

It’s always nice when America’s Team loses.

Super Bowl Prediction

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

Just so it is on the record beforehand, I believe the Pittsburgh Steelers will triumph tomorrow in Super Bowl XL over the Seattle Seahawks.

It is true I have not seen much of the Seahawks this year (east coast/west coast thing). By no means do I believe it will be a blowout. I am happy to see the Seahawks in the Super Bowl. Once my teams are out of it, I root for seeing teams that have never made it.

**UPDATE**
FWIW, I never quite understood the fascination with the Super Bowl advertisements. While I understand the event draws a huge audience, thus providing an opportunity for whichever network to hike ad buys, the viewer is still watching commercials. Why would viewers be so interested in that?

Yes, I recall last year’s Go Daddy commercial. Yes, there was a lot of controversy about it. Yet, when it came time to buy web space, that commercial played absolutely no part (and I didn’t purchase from that company).

I get the idea that it is an event. How commercials tie in for me as a spectator is something I don’t understand.

Congratulations PSU

Penn State just won the Orange Bowl. It was nice the field goal kicker was able to atone for his previous misses. To be honest, I thought he missed it.

It was an exciting game. PSU was the better team, but they were beaten up and that allowed FSU to control the game via their defense.
