This history lesson came with a heavy dose of surrealism.

My day with Fritz, my one-year-old son was moving along. The humidity was up, but we were having a grand time. It occurred to me in Washington Park that I had once again screwed up the GPX files loaded onto Rocky. There has to be a better way of loading TerraCaching and other non-Groundspeak GPX files. I am missing important parts of the descriptions. I had recalled John stated there was information to pick up before one saw the bell. I just decided to heavily photograph the experience to prove I was there and seek mercy. Fortunately, I have the needed information for the confirmation code.

The line to enter wasn’t too bad. The last time I took the tour was on 12 January 2006 for a scavenger hunt. I had to remove my belt among other things as I was frisked to get in. This time I showed Fritz’s clear bag of animal crackers and was admitted entry. Times have changed.

Immediately when I entered there was a cute Asian girl who was fawning over Fritz. We have an ongoing joke in our house that he attracts women, but usually elderly women. My wife says that I can use our boy to hook up with these grandmothers. In return I have been teaching the chick magnet to seek out younger women. It worked!

I went through photographing the exhibits and scolding myself for not being more thorough on my preparation. As we approached the bell, the cute girl approached. She didn’t really speak English but indicated she wanted a photograph with Fritz. She and her friend swapped. It’s a very surreal feeling having a child who is longed for. The same kinds of things happen with my daughter too.

Anyhow, we continued on. I shared with Fritz the history of the bell. As always, thee were lots of folks vying for photographs. We waited and got our turn as well. Fritz was very happy seeing the Liberty Bell for the first time.

Thanks for the opportunity to swing The Boys Are Back in Town Tour through here for this virtual.
