Queen Goddess ‘Nado the Great

On the day Timothy McVeigh sought attention, I met Queen Goddess ‘Nado the Great.  At midnight tonight, she passed away.

I was with her in the parking lot of the vet.  It is very sad.  Our family will miss the kitty.

Also blogged on this date . . .

I had been looking back at other things recently and came across a reference about you and Nado and wondered whether Nado was still around, but didn’t want to ask, because it’s always painful when one loses one of our animal friends. I would like to console you on your loss and leave you with the Raindbow Bridge poem that hopefully will ease your sorrow.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

Thanks, Paul. That’s a nice poem.

It occurred to me today that ‘Nado is the first pet of mine I had die.

Growing up, Angel our poodle, died. She was older than I was. My sister was fond of telling me how Mom and Dad loved the dog more than me. :(

We found a cat after that. I took a great liking to her. But I went off to school for seven years. She actually ran away for five years. She too passed, but I was out of the picture by then.

There were the Siamese cats, but they were definitely Dad’s cats.

Butterscotch was my first pet. I was forced to give her up after college. Friends of mine took her in. While it sounds like she ran off, I never really knew.

Becks, another cat of mine, my roommate Steve took when we went our separate ways. Becks lived a long life, but eventually died. It was several years later.

Then there was Zooky. Another cat of mine. Unfortunately, roommates did not keep good house and let the cat out unattended. She wandered off. :( I was pissed.

But ‘Nado was the first pet (and last) I had from birth (nearly) to death. She was my family before Gert, Beetle, and Fritz came along. She used to have her own column in a newsletter, a web site long before it was trendy, etc. She would type to my friends on ICQ. She traveled with me to Florida numerous times. She would not roam around but sit on my lap the entire way. She tried to get to my lap last night but couldn’t make it.

Our home feels less full today.
