Patriots’ Day
Ah, the joys of living in Boston. I used to love Patriots’ Day (aka Boston Marathon Monday). Boston is on holiday today. One wakes up very early. If you are one of the “good” people, you head out to Hopkinton to start the race. If you are one of the “regular” folks, you begin drinking. We liked Heartbreak Hill, but one year I worked on Boyleston about a block away from the finish line. What a scene!
After the marathon, one heads immediately to Kenmore Square for the Red Sox game. More partying. Good stuff. And if one is still going, he heads into town after the early game to finish off the day.
I will say Patriots’ Day in Boston is unlike any Monday in any other city.
Drew over at Ace of Spades posted the following video. How humiliating.

A holiday to commemorate the first battles in the Revolutionary War, and you only talked about partying?
You, sir, are no patriot. NAZI. Leave America. Now. Go to Canada. Hoser!
just kidding
I love Boston. Never been there for Patriot’s Day but I liked readin your brief description of it. Boston’s one of my favorite American cities. Had a friend from college who lived out in Lexington… we played hacky sack on the Lexington Green!
And that guy who dropped the ball was all over ESPN briefly. Sucker. If he just sat down instead of celebrating catching a foul ball, he wouldn’t've dropped it! Then again, he wouldn’t have his 15 minutes of fame on ESPN… and here at eCache.

My favorite Chinese restaurant is right there in the center of Lexington. Get there before 9:00 when the cooks are bussed back to Boston. I worked in Concord. Beautiful area.
As for the guy who let the ball through his legs . . . that is Bill Buckner, who was a borderline HoFer b4 that. He was not the reason the Red Sox lost Game 6, nor the Series. The Sox redeemed him the last few years. He was cheered on opening day.

I didn’t watch the video (which MLB has yanked from youtube) … I thought it was that guy who dropped the foul ball the other day.
As a Mets fan I know well about the Buckner error. Was great that he got cheered on Opening Day! Brought a tear to his eye. Poor guy… what he musta lived through for so many years in near-seclusion in Idaho, giving only like one interview in all that time, or something like that.

Yes, it was the fan who made a nice catch on a foul ball. Then, as he took in the adulation, he dropped it over the railing.
I am no fan of self-congratulations. I have no sympathy for those who brag and then are embarrassed.
