You’re a better man than I. I just cannot watch baseball in TV. I think television does a good job of covering most sports, with the exception of baseball. For whatever reason, TV seems to think that baseball is about the pitcher and the batter and very rarely does it stray away from that concept, unless there’s a runner on base and then it’ll give you the split screen.

Get me to a ballpark any day of the week so I can watch the maneuvering of the outfield after every pitch. Let me watch the shortstop and second baseman eye each other, telling each other with their eyes who’s going to cover the bag on the throw should it come through when the runner attempts a steal. Let me watch the runner make that split second decision as he’s heading for second whether to make the turn and head to third base. TV loses all of this.

On a side note, I see you’ve started scanning your scorecards from games, but I have looked that closely at them. I know we left early, but did you scan the scorecard from the game we saw at the Vet? Dodgers vs Phillies and I know it went extra innings as well.

That card is not up. I’ll have to research it. If I scored the game, I suspect it is in my book. Back then I was using an oversized book (I have several). They do not scan well. I have hundreds of games in those books. I still like using them, but sharing is tough.

I also recall us leaving before the game was over. Perhaps I am thinking of another game, but it seems to me the game may have gone into extra innings and the van that transported us wasn’t going to wait. I’ll research this eventually.

My best estimate was it was our second year at FI, so I think that would be August, 1999? Maybe 2000? We did have to leave early because of van issues, but the game went on long enough that we were able to catch the last part of the game (extra innings) on television back at the hotel.

I found an article in our local paper, the L.A. Times, that you might find interesting.

Thanks for the link to the article.

I attended a Nats game a couple weeks ago. I was most impressed that there at least 10 people scoring around me. I think it may be making a comeback.

Most of these modern parks, at least the ones I have been to, display the scoring line after each AB. When the Phillies built their stadium they asked fans for suggestions. I pleaded that they dedicate a section of the scoreboard to permanently show the scorecard. It didn’t happen. :( I think that would be awesome if a team did it.

The article didn’t mention the software the lady used. I have used FixedIt’s Score Book for many years. I like it and it will run on a PDA. In SF one can dl the line-ups with his PDA. Kewl!
