Van Drew Wants Nanny State
Jeff “I Sponsor Every Bill” Van Drew did not wait long before he made his mark in the state senate. The feelgood senator will sponsor Chloe and Samantha’s Law. This law will require all televisions sold in New Jersey to carry a warning about the dangers of falling televisions and safety procedures to secure them.
Ugh!
Why is it government’s role to mandate safety in one’s home?
Sure, there have been some unfortunate accidents where televisions have fallen on young children. Would a warning label had made a difference? Doubtful.
Even so, government will overstep its role if it passes this bill. What will be next? If I purchase a case of soup (my mother purchased a case of black bean soup when I was a boy) would it too need a label? A set of encyclopedia? A large box of dry detergent for the clothes washer? Feelgood legislation, particularly that which is also anti-business, is not what is needed from government.
Senator Van Drew, the volume of bills you have sponsor (click link at bottom of page) needs a warning label, don’t you think?
