Gert & Frolickin’s First Geocache

It had been my intention for several years now to share the video from the first geocache we found. A couple years ago I began that project. The tape was destroyed in an old camcorder. Sigh . . . it bothers me when things are lost like that.

Tonight I was in the basement searching for something. As the years go by, this task is extended because of the amount of stuff we have down there. I am not much on resolutions, but if I were, one would be to clear out our basement. As I searched for the book I was looking for, I came across a videotape. I thought I had all those arranged, so finding one out of place surprised me. It was labeled. Given the content listed, it would have had some geocaching footage from early in the game. Back then, a camcorder was taken on every hunt.

When I loaded it into the camcorder, I was floored to find that some video from the first hunt was on this tape. Holy cow, what a find! Either the tape that was destroyed was not the first hunt or I had a back-up. I am not certain at this point.

Gert had taped over some of it and the tape is not holding up particularly well, but the main part of it is there.

I added some music (Finders Keepers, performed by Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders on 74-10-05 at Keystone in Berkeley) and commentary to it. Enjoy!

Happy New Year, and congrats on your video find. What great memories that must bring back. My wife and I have been addicted to geocaching for just six months now, and will get our 200th find today - in deep snow and zero degrees. If interested, we blog at
    Cache on!
