Wiggly Party

Anyone with a toddler probably knows of the Wiggles. Beetle is a fan and she dances and sings along with the four from Down Under. This fondness was why I paid attention to the blurb in yesterday’s paper announcing that tickets for the Philadelphia shows coming in August.

I am no fan of the concert scene these days. Even worse is the price charged for tickets. Ticketmaster perfected the convenience fee. Sheesh. Today I stumbled across something I have still not understood.

The blurb mentioned the web site where one could order tickets. I followed the link to investigate. Tickets for the shows run from$13 to $78. Even though the tickets are not on sale yet, I clicked through to see what the process is. I was amazed at what I saw.

ComcastTIX.com has a fee to pick up the tickets at the Will-Call window. Traditionally, there is a charge for the venue to hold one’s tickets. Presumably, that is because someone needs to be on hand to distribute the ticket the day of the show. It’s a stretch, but I recognize there is history to this charge. Comcast wants $3.50 to do so.

What amazed me was the $2.50 charge to print the tickets on my own printer. What? Why is there a charge to do this? What service, product, or good is being provided for me to spend my own resources? We may or may not attend this show. I am not inclined to follow through next week. Gert may think differently. We will not be in the first 10 rows so not enough of the audience will be behind me for my liking. And if I am in attendance, I do not know if I will be able to get into Dorothy the Dinosaur enough to forget that I will be charged to print my own ticket. Brrrrr . . . grrrrr . . . that is just wrong!
