Link Blog

I read a lot of blogs. I find the proverbial soapbox an amazing medium.

A few years ago Chris/Mopar recommended RSS Bandit as an aggregator. I tried it along with a number of others. I liked the feel od RSS Bandit and have used it ever since.

Over the years I have read of other aggregators and have tried them out. I always returned to RSS Bandit quickly. When I moved to Firefox, I really thought I was going to read my blogs in the browser. I just didn’t like it. While Firefox is wonderful, as a newreader, it was less than what I desired.

As time moved on, I felt as though I was missing something. It seems like RSS had progressed beyond a standalone app.

One of the blogs I read is Robert Scoble’s Scobelizer. Scoble began documenting his link blog. The link blog is a page that contains all the stories Scoble shares via Google Reader. Google Reader is an aggregator that has recently been re-designed. I had tried it before, but found it lacking. After reading Scoble’s views, I tried it again. I really like it!

I exported my feeds from RSS Bandit to an OPML file. I then imported that into Google Reader. GR displays which of those feeds have new posts. As I read the blog posts from the feeds I subscribe to, GR tracks that they have been read. Those I desire to share, I simply click “share” and that post automatically appears in my link blog.

Readers of eCache can then follow what I have read recently that I have found interesting. I find that quite interesting.

Google also owns Blogger. If my blog were hosted on Blogger, I could then blog immediately about those posts. That would be kewl. I purchased my own domain/space so I am not beholden to other companies for my content, so I do not have that available to me . . . yet. I suspect WordPress will be added at some point.

By having my feeds web-based instead of a standalone, wherever I go that has connectivity means I can check up on my reading. More and more I am moving away from the big system housing everything to more of a distributive computing environment. I find that refreshing.

So, dear reader, bookmark the link blog and perhaps you’ll find interesting posts that I have not commented on here that you are unaware of. It is just another manner of sharing content. Enjoy!
