McGreevey To Confess
Former New Jersey Governor James McGreevey has been issued a subpoena along with other aides to the “Gay American”.
When McGreevey wrote The Confession, he admitted to all sorts of corruption. Some of that revolved about the controversial Highlands Preservation Act, which McGreevey signed into law immediately before declaring publicly he was gay.
Apparently, in order to satisfy all of the politicos who were pinching McGreevey, the boundaries of the protected land were determined by political favors, not science as was reported. Those with clout met with McGreevey at an undisclosed hotel in Trenton to wield their influence.
Jacob Bogatch, a developer, was not in attendance. He had no political influence. Therefore, his plan to build 20 homes in the area was squashed as the boundarie were determined without any regard to him or his business. Bogatch is not happy and has filed suit to challenge the legality of the act given the political maneuvering that ensued to set the boundaries.
Most agree that Bogatch will not get far in his suit. Laws are usually created by compromising and it appears that this is no different. Sure, McGreevey was as corrupt as they come. But there is no evidence that Bogatch would have been able to build otherwise.
But it will be fun to watch the corrupt ex-governor under oath. He’ll have to answer for what he has done. It does seem that McGreevey thinks he can confess to how corrupt he was and wipe the slate clean. As this suit demonstrates, there are consequences for one’s actions. And who knows, perhaps an adept lawyer will be able to get McGreevey to open a can of worms that will lead to other inquiries.
