Political Enemies
David Gregory interviewed Sen. Barack Obama this morning on The Today Show. At about 4:15 into the interview, Gregory stated:
I wonder how you think your political enemies will try to capitalize on your background overall including, quite frankly, that your middle name is Hussein.
Huh? Political enemies? Is that how we characterize those who run for public office in this country of ours? Enemies? Are you comfortable with that word? From Merriam-Webster:
1 : one that is antagonistic to another; especially : one seeking to injure, overthrow, or confound an opponent
2 : something harmful or deadly
3 a : a military adversary b : a hostile unit or force
Furthermore, Gregory is “supposedly” a reporter. Does that obligate him to objectivity? If so, how is tossing about a loaded term like political enemies objective?
