Codey’s Idea to Squander More Tax Dollars

Do you remember the bright idea from Dick Codey, New Jersey Senate president, to move the New Jersey presidential primary from June to February? Well, it hasn’t gone away. Tomorrow the Senate will vote on this legislation.

Interestingly, on the day of rest, we find out this nugget of information about Codey’s plan:

Officials estimate it will cost $10.34 million to hold the presidential primary in 2008 in February instead of June when the remainder of the primaries will still be held; $7.19 million of that cost will be borne by county governments.

Amid the work to reduce property taxes, the legislative leadership is finding a way to spend more tax dollars.

I stated in June 2005 that this was a bad idea and I still think it is.

New Jersey cannot afford these kinds of ideas. When will we learn that?
