Codey Still Committed to Moving the Presidential Primary

New Jersey changed its presidential primary in June 2005. Instead of its long-standing position in June, whhich could affect great weight in a contested primary, then Governor Codey was adamant about moving the primary up to February, thinking New Jersey would have more weight in the process. I said then it was a bad idea. One reason is that other states would leapfrog the Garden State’s early position.

Guess what? Other states positioned themselves ahead of us.

Now Codey is back again pushing for New Jersey to have its presidential primary to 5 February 2008, the earliest states are now permitted to have their primary based on some deals cut. I am certain Codey will get his way on this issue.

To what end?

There will be more legislative time debating this. That means more tax dollars. New Jersey is still solid blue. As such, it will still remain an uncontested state. Presidential politics play in states that actually have a balanced electorate. New Jersey keeps electing corrupt Democrats. Why would a GOP candidate sink money into this market? Without that, Democrats will not counter the ad buys. Therefore, New Jersey will remain just as irrelevant on the national level as it has been.

I certainly wish Mr. Codey and his buddies would be this committed to cleaning up the corruption at the statehouse as they are in the presidential primary.
