Most folks I know do not give a hoot about McGreevey’s sexuality. Yet, all these folks still live in the state that he compromised by surrounding himself with unethical people as he lived his lie.
The end result is that taxes increased under his governance, the bond rating of the state plummeted because of his administration, and taxpayers have become particularly cynical of their state government because of him.
How dare McGreevey play the victim as the poor homosexual who was brought down because of who he was. Hogwash! He used his sexuality as an out for the corruption that was caving in around him.
Remember: Governor McGreevey is the one who tried to get an Israeli citizen confirmed as the state homeland security advisor. McGreevey is the one on the federal wiretap using a code word to signal a “deal” was made. McGreevey top campaign fundraiser Charles Kushner, now inmate Kushner, hired a call girl to sleep with his BIL and then mailed the tape to his sister. McGreevey’s commerce secretary resigned amid reports he took state money. McGreevey selected Peter Harvey as the state AG. Corruption scandal after corruption scandal was investigated in New Jersey during this time . . . by US attorney Chris Christie. Harvey just accepted tickets to boxing matches in AC. McGreevey appointed Joseph Santiago superintendent of the state police despite convictions and associations with organized crime. McGreevey hired Gary Taffet as his chief of staff and Paul Levinsohn as his chief counsel. Those two used their influence to line their pockets. McGreevey is the one who used the state police helicopters as his personal limo service. McGreevey is the one who sold all future tobacco settlement money and then spent it, indebting us down the road. McGreevey is the one who hired all sorts of young men to work for him and then told them to make up their own job titles.
This image rehabilitation campaign is bunk. McGreevey was as corrupt as they come. Remember that as he tells his tale of woe to Oprah.
