All Things Must Pass

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
None of lifes strings can last
So, I must be on my way
And face another day

Unfortunately, Rocketboom has undergone a major change. Amanda Congdon, the quirky news anchor of the daily vlog has “left” the show.

What left means depends on whom you speak with. Amanda says she was fired. Andrew says she forced him to change the show so she could move to L.A.. It’s a classic he said/she said moment.

Fred Graver, executive producer of VH1’s Best Week Ever, provides his take on the falling out on Jarvis’ BuzzMachine today.

None of us are so good at this as to warrant this kind of public display of bullshit. What I’m obsessed with right now is feeling that two kids in a dorm somewhere in San Diego are going to release something on YouTube that’s going to blow us ALL away… Amanda, Andrew, myself, Jeff… we all have to be ready for the next generation of web media — something that’ll be as powerful as “Real World” was to MTV: the thing that made Martha Quinn look like… well, Martha Quinn.

‘Tis true.

One of the things that I have learned about myself as I have aged is that I do not like change. The fun of RB was Amanda’s quirkiness. I certainly did not tune in for the politics as both she and Andrew are politically opposite of me. The show was refreshing. It was edgy. It was fun.

But like all tales of fame and fortune, the quest to “have it all” brought down the magic. Rocketboom will continue and I have no doubt Amanda will show up elsewhere. But the magic that capture our hearts and mind are gone. Like when Shelly Long left Cheers, the show continued, but the smart play between her character and Sam was over. The audience loses when stuff like this happens.

For now, Joanne Colan is sitting in the chair. Today marked the return of RB after the 10-day break that has resulted in the change. Time on task may improve the product, but if one thinks that a pirate patch to a silly necklace is a trade-up, well, we may have seen the future of RB.
Best of luck everyone.
