Corzine Is Getting Nothing Accomplished

Yesterday, Roberto’s post about Governor Corzine’s weakness was timely.

They (Democrats) see NJ governor Jon Corzine with lousy approval numbers, equal to or (depending on the poll) lower than the president, and they start wondering whether they should follow his lead.

Two headlines today:

Senators Move To Sink Corzine’s Water Tax Plan

and

Senators scoff at Corzine’s self-serve gas proposal

Today, the governor sat in the audience as his Attorney General argued to limit the amount of the increase to Abbott districts. From my seat, it is an argument the governor is likely to win.

More Democrats were riled when Corzine floated the bad idea of self-serve gasoline. Today, he backed off that.

Other than indebting New Jerseyans for three decades by not making a hard choice early on, what has Corzine accomplished as governor?

What Corzine really needs to accomplish is less state spending. However, that is not his objective. He’s attempting to change priorities in state spending, shifting funding from one program to another, but he’s increasing spending at the same time - leading to his call for new and increased taxes. Given his plan, it’s best that he is stopped from accomplishing it.

Enlighten, that could be the tagline for this site.

What is interesting is not that he is on the wrong path with me, but that he is totally ineffective with his own party. It’s going to be a long tenure for Governor Corzine if Wayne Bryant and I continue to be on the same side of the issues.
