Chitown Bans Food
April 29th, 2006 | Posted in » Politics
Chicago came to prominence bcause of its slaughterhouses. It was link between the ranches where cattle were raised and distribution to the rest of the nation.
Which of course makes the Windy City’s latest law laughable.
Chicago has banned the sale of foie gras.
Unbelievable!
The city doesn’t produce foie gras, it only has a few resturants that sell it. But no more. The slaughterhouses still run, but the sale of goose liver is forbidden.
Alderman Joe Moore stated the ban sends:
a powerful message that we uphold the value of a civilized society
When government oversteps its purview, society suffers. Smoking bans, foie gras bans. What’s next?

I just read over at Ruhlman’s blog that Chicago has reversed its ban on foie gras. While it should have never gone that route to begin with, at least it has corrected its error.
