NJ Says My Daughter Can Longer Feed the Ducks
The state apparently is strong-arming municipalities into passing stricter environmental standards (unfunded mandate?) according to an article in today’s Daily Journal.
The state Department of Environmental Protection has required 562 New Jersey municipalities, including Vineland, to pass environment-conscious regulations and develop plans that will reduce the amount and number of pollutants entering waterways.
City Council plans to pass the rules Tuesday.
The lead to the article is what caught my attention:
New regulations required by the state will prohibit Vineland youngsters from feeding ducks at any park and demand that local dog owners clean up after their pets on their morning walks.
Huh?
What does feeding the ducks at the local pond have to do with storm drain runoff? The ducks defecate whether my little girl feeds them or not, yes? Was it children feeding the Canada geese that closed Union Lake last year? I think not.
So, government, is interferring yet again with New Jersey’s families. No longer will Beetle be able to go and feed the ducks. Let’s see, does that enhance our living in the Garden State?
