Rough Start to Season
This baseball season has gotten off to a rough start for me.
I am always quite eager for the season to begin. This year was no different. At Christmas, I mentioned to Gert that if her new DV RAM unit worked as we expected, I would purchase one for the baseball season. It has and I did (although I purchased just a recorder, passing on the RAM). I should have learned the unit a little better before putting it to use.
Last night I began scoring the Indians v. White Sox game. In the middle of the fourth inning, the rain came. Two and one-half hours later the game resumed and I was exhausted. There was no way I was going to be able to remain awake to complete the scoring. I pushed record (or so I thought) to record the balance of the game. I just tried to complete the scorecard and the second part of the game is not on the DVD. Sigh . . .
This morning I set the timer for the Phillies home opener. It was a 3:05 PM start and I was to still be at work. I negotiated the menus and had everything set up. Perfect!
I arrived home and I decided not to watch the game. I figured once Beetle was asleep I could start the disc. But then Gert let out the bad news. Why would she give away the score, one way or the other? Women . . . Then I looked at my DVR. Hmmm . . . shouldn’t the red light be on? Sigh . . . I finally tuned in during the eighth, saw the blowout, and watched a bit of the final inning. It looks like I had everything right, but the DVR had the wrong current time. Maybe I never set it. As soon as I re-set the time, it wanted to record the game.
Scanning TVGuide.com saw no hope of a replay. I could have sworn CSN used to re-broadcast the first game. I guess it doesn’t.
So much for scoring all 162. I never do, but to be out of the race after the first game is a bit disheartening. I guess I can score it from the Gameday log.
So, two days in and still no completed scorecard. I guess I will watch Barroid Bonds tonight to remedy that.
