Happy Opening Day
Today should be a national holiday. Plain and simple.
I am not one of these guys who thinks we should celebrate anything. I am not trying to finagle fewer work days. Frankly, I would have no issue with overhauling the entire federal holiday scheme. In the end, however, today should be a holiday.
Baseball is the national pastime. The nation should be at the ballpark today. A nation partaking in its pastime . . . it sounds like a tradition to me. It sounds like something good for the health of our country.
Baseball is woven into our identity. My friends at Baseball Truth have had a petition calling for Opening Day to be a national holiday now for several years. Go sign it and we’ll right this obvious wrong.
The first pitch of the Phillies game should be just about now . . . Go Phightin’s!
