Corzine Continues to Add to State Payroll
I am having a difficult time understanding Governor Corzine.
Faced with a $4 billion gap for next year’s budget, the governor floated the idea of spending cuts. All the while, however, Corzine also intimated that while cuts would be present, taxes will rise.
At the town meeting I attended with the governor, he stated that everything that can be cut will be.
And this is where I am having ttrouble understanding what that means. Today, Corzine signed an executive order that creates a new cabinet position. I have searched, but have come up empty on the salary of this position. Nevertheless, such a position adds to the government payroll. I am certain that Mr. CaƱas will have a staff and a budget.
With $4 billion needed, this is not the time to be adding. Corzine added an overseer to the Schools Construction Corp. previously.
It is becoming quite apparent that Governor Corzine is not serious about cutting spending.
When the governor looks straight into the camera next week and announces how much he has “cut” in spending, but that just doesn’t make up for what is needed, remember that the governor has added two large salaries and he is only 57 days into his term.
