Corzine Bails Out a Friend
The New Jersey blogosphere is likely to run amok with the latest news that Governor Corzine has bailed out a friend and lobbyist.
Karen Golding worked on Corzine’s 2000 Senate campaign. She is now accused of burglary and stalking New Jersey Democrat Party leader, Assemblyman Joseph Cryan, D-Union. Governor Corzine stepped forward in February and bailed Golding out from jail. He claims he did not know the facts of the case.
I do not have a big problem with this. Presumeably, if I were incarcerated, someone would bail me out. If I knew Mr. Corzine, perhaps I would ask him.
Ms. Golding was arrested for burglary and stalking Assemblyman Cryan. It sounds like there is a story there, but who knows? This is America, folks. People are afforded the opportunity to defend themselves, bail, and presumption of innocence. That the governor knows someone in need and is willing to help out is not a concern here.
Now, if Ms. Katz were the party arrested and the governor purchased her another home, well, then there would be a story. Ms. Golding works for Prudential and seemingly has no influence upon the chief executive.
