Federal Courts Down Corzine-Backed Lawsuit
New Jersey filed suit the other day to stop DP World from purchasing the operations at various ports on the east coast. The suit filed by Corzine’s Attorney General Zulima Farber was tossed out today by U.S. District Judge Jose Linares. In a sign of what is ahead for New Jersey, the AP reported that AG Farber believes it was this suit that caused DP World to agree to a 45-day review:
New Jersey Attorney General Zulima Farber said despite the judge’s decision, she was satisfied because she believes the state’s lawsuit prompted the company to agree to the 45-day review.
Wow, what a sense of importance Ms. Farber has of herself.
Let’s review: the US Constitution reserves certain rights for the federal government. All others are either individual or state rights.
Section 8
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States
Yet, Ms. Farber said,
The people of New Jersey and the governor of the state of New Jersey are in the best position to assess risks.
Is our AG trying to trump the US COnstitution? eCache will keep a close eye Ms. Farber.
