AC Corruption: An Opportunity for Leadership
Dear Mr. Governor-elect,
Since you refuse to show up for work these days, how about we find something else for you to do? You have missed all 15 votes in the Senate since last week’s election.
How about if you show us what kind of a leader you are? The Division of Gaming Enforcement has been trying to get the mob out of casino construction in Atlantic City. You remember Atlantic City, right? America’s Favorite Playground and all that. Oh yes, of course you do. You are partners with Mr. Icahn. Mr. Icahn owns a casino in AC. Silly me, I had forgotten. You will divest that partnership, yes?
Anyhow, the Division of Gaming Enforcement tried last year to bar Interstate Industrial Corp. from doing business in town. It seems the owners are linked to the Gambino and DeCavalcante families. Unfortunately, the Casino Control Commission (CCC) balked at that last year. Now the Division of Gaming Enforcement is back again with more evidence. It wants construction at the beach to b legitimate. But the
CCC said those contacts were incidental and unavoidable given the mob’s infiltration of the New York-area construction industry.
It seems like the construction company paid the bill on Bernard Kerik’s condo. Mr. Governor-elect, it is time for your leadership. The Division of Gaming Enforcement has filed suit. Step up to the plate and publicly state that New Jersey will not be held to The Sopranos reputation any longer. Speak out against the stall tactics of the CCC. Set the bar for your administration to be higher than the last elected governor. New Jersey deserves better. You are our leader. Lead, sir.
