Sheehan Has No Credibility

Other than dispelling someone’s misguided analogy using Cindy Sheehan, I have not commented on August’s political focal point. But as I step back into reality it occurs to me that Ms. Sheehan is doing no good with her protest in Crawford and her proposed bus tour sounds equally off target.

It is easy to dismiss Ms. Sheehan as a grieving mother who deserves sympathy. The problem with that is that she has outlasted her 15 minutes and now offers policy advice and speaks loudly which gets her voice broadcasted. As such, she opens herself up to scrutiny. And it is under scrutiny that Ms. Sheehan fails.

Her blog entry today on Arianna Huffington’s site, The Huffington Post, is wrong:

While George golfed yesterday, the worst hurricane ever struck New Orleans; oil went up to over $68.00/barrel; and an American soldier was killed in the charade and cataclysmic occupation of Iraq.

The problem with this, dear reader, is that President Bush did not play golf yesterday.

I am all for speaking one’s mind, even if I do not agree with that opinion. But one cannot invent facts, dismiss logic, or prance along bloviating oblivious to the situation around him. Doing so reduces the credibility fo the messenger. Ms. Sheehan has lost all credibility with me. That her “sound bite” was echoed on the scandal-ridden Air America Radio speaks volumes about where Sheehan is receiving her advice.
