Irish Misrepresents His Company to the World

Geocaching was featured on Law & Order: Criminal Intent this evening, May 8. Contrary to the creative license taken by the show’s writers, we strictly do not list caches that are buried. We also welcome those who saw the show this evening!

The above was posted by Jeremy Irish on the front page of GC.com in response to the show, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, which aired this evening. While the disclaimer works to show that GC.com is a considerate organization, I offer the accompanying photograph. That is the hole the Lottie Dots and Hannah Signs cache is placed in. Notice, it is buried. It is listed on GC.com. So, Mr. Irish is not telling you the truth. Sure, he will point to the Guide for Hiding a Cache where he states

Please do not bury the container unless you have express permission of the landowner or manager.

Note, that caches can be buried with landowner permission. That is not strictly do not list caches that are buried. Nor is it true as there are plenty of caches listed on the site which are buried. I have sent numerous e-mails to Mr. Irish and other Groundspeak employees detailing buried caches listed on their site. They were all ignored and I was told they were unreasonable issues. So, contrary to the words Mr. Irish used to dispel the Criminal Intent version of caching, GC.com lists buried caches and does so knowingly.
