Cumberland County Republicans Back Forrester
I have lived in Cumberland County now for 11 years. Several years ago I called Larry Pepper, Chairman of the County Republican Party, about how I could get involved. I was unable to get ahold of Mr. Pepper and he never returned my call.
I am a registered Republican. I completed an online form on the state party site which indicated I was interested in participating locally. Other than placing me on a mailing list which I receive all sorts of campaign literature, no one locally ever contacted me about helping out.
Last month I wrote to the Forrester campaign after I read it won a local county convention. I asked about Cumberland County’s convention, since I was unaware of when it was, how to participate, etc. Mr. Forrester apparently was not interested in my support for I heard nary a word about my request.
On Thursday, The Press ran a story about the upcoming Cumberland County Republican conevention. It was going to occur Saturday.
So, two days before the event, the newspaper ran a story which informed me of the information I sought. My party didn’t inform me. A candidate seeking my support didn’t inform me. The newspaper (not even the local paper) did. Kudos for the media. Jeers for conservative politics.
Virtually any Saturday evening I am available, but it just so happens I had plans for last evening. The plans were important. Had I known about the convention, I could have switched my plans, but not on two days notice. So, I was disenfranchised from participating (yet again) in local politics.
Perhaps the problem with Republicans in this state is that they are incapable of organization. I am a person willing to be involved. Maybe I can’t write a big check, but I am certain I can be of some use to the party. But I have run out of approaches. Calling the chairman has not worked. Completing an online form has not worked. I do not know folks who are connected to the power brokers. I guess politics has moved beyond a normal schmoe.
Frustrated . . .

To add to the frustration, this from today’s Daily Journal:
You have to enjoy the well-spoken chairman.
