Delegates to be Paid for Constitutional Convention Work

Coffeegrounds comments that an e-mail from the New Jersey Conference of Mayors indicates that delegates to the proposed Constitutional Convention can be paid for their work. Contributions would be limited to a $250 contribution from any one donor and that donor is capped at $6,250 overall.

NJCM’s earlier suggestion to lower contribution limits was adopted, although the amendments did not go as far as we had asked. Now campaign donors would be allowed to give no more than $250 to any one prospective delegate’s campaign, rather than the $500 originally proposed. Also a new limit of $6,250 would be set for a single donor’s overall contributions.

What? The folks who will be re-writing the state constitution will be set up as pawns to the lobbyists?

Sigh . . . I wonder if the delegates of the First and Second Continental Congresses felt they should have been paid.
