A Cold Caching Day

I hadn’t planned on going out today. It’s been so cold and I just didn’t want to deal with it. Yet, Saturday night there were a number of new caches placed. Still, too cold for me.

I was running through a few different plans for the weekend. I was undecided just how it would play. Ski e-mailed me about going to Pitman for Lavarock’s new caches. We discussed what we would do after those.

Well, Saturday morning we were off. Along the way we hit a few Ski needed as well. We got to the 1-2-3 Lockbox cache. Ski found the tree. We headed over to the first manhole. Didn’t really see anything there, although it stunk to high heaven. We saw the other manhole and went to that. I spotted the key as we came up to it. The lid was broken. There was no way that the guy before us had accidentally done that.

From there we headed to Atkinson Park, where the Open Seyza Me caches had been. The gates were closed. After driving about a little, we parked near the retirement community and headed in. We saw the guy shoveling and continued on. He eventually came out and called to us that the park was closed. :( Bummer.

We went and did a couple other caches, To Be or Not to Be and Gibbstown. Gibbstown too was closed. :( From there we headed to Delaware for a few. It wasn’t until Ski started saying this town was rich that I realized where we were. It has been 20 years since I had been to Newark. We hit a few of SBUX’s new micros. Poor placements. Ski didn’t even want to the one at the Christiana Mall.

The highlight of the day was the Solar System virtual at U of D. Yes, a virtual. As a general rule, I do not care for virts, but this was very well done. There were these plaques/stones all over campus. We began with the sun and continued away from that to Mercury, Venus, Earth, etc. This is a scale model. Cool stuff. It was cold and difficult to read these thins, but it was really neat.

Other Things . . .
I hid a cache. While out in the field, I came up with an idea to help out the cache. I sat on my butt the rest of the weekend and did not get back out there to check the coordinates again and to employ this other thing. Now we have several inches of snow. Sigh, I guess I am going to have to wait for this one. No biggy as I am still working on the description.

Last evening I came up with an idea that will use three things I have wanted to use for some time now. I have an e-mail into NJAdmin to see if it will fly. As of yet, I have heard nothing.
