Central Jersey Caching
Another of the must-do caches! After doing Melvin’s a month ago, I have been eager to take on some more of the known caches in the state. Next up was Wheretogo Vertigo!, King Pellinore’s high anxiety cache.
Ski and I made a day of it. First we re-visited Into the Woods, a poorly placed cache many miles out of the way, to retrieve a hitchhiker needed to complete another cache that was on the docket for the day. We stopped for a rest stop cache and then found ourselves near Rutgers. I had done a few caches here last winter after a meeting I had with the NJ DOE. We stopped for Ski to get these fairly easy ones. We banged out a few others as well and then headed for Minute and Magoo’s Motors, two other known caches.
Minute wasn’t quite as difficult as I had expected, yet it required some careful searching. After finding that we went across the street to complete Magoo’s Motors. We had the hitchhiker and calculated the real coordinates. It was in a spacious park, but out of the way, hidden quite well. This is a good kind of cache, as far as I am concerned. Ski found it, even though I had checked the other end. D’oh!
After that we were ready for the bridge. We parked along the canal and walked about one-third of a mile to the bridge. A couple arrived right before us and walked out. We followed. They left and we began preparations. Admittedly, I was a tad nervous. I don’t think I quite let on, but I am not a fan of heights. It was decided Ski would descend and if all went well, I would go down after him. After locating the cache, we decided I would return it. Getting down was fine. Returning the cache was a bit tough. Leaning out is the challenge. Getting back up the bridge was a struggle. It became apparent that my belly wasn’t going to cooperate. I am happy Ski was there. If not, I may have panicked. I was stuck for a minute, but pushed through. The next day I saw the damage. A bruise on my belly and on my back from where I forced myself through the ties. Ouch! But I can say that I completed it!
There are a handful of other caches that I am ready to attempt as well now.
What a day!
