Caching w/ Ski

Today was set up for me to do a maintenance run down at Belleplain. I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time. Again, this did not happen.

Ski mentioned he wanted to run up to grab the new Wharton cache. I asked if he would be willing to run over to Atsion so I could nab the Cranberry Dam cache he and Ken got on Monday. While that was being discussed, Tom’s new Atsion cache was posted. That sealed the deal.

As I was looking at the map, I shared with Ski the possibility of taking the western run to grab the rest of the new caches. That was more than agreeable.

We began about 6:45. We got to Atsion without a hitch. How many times have we been there? Yet, taking the road before Quaker Bridge yielded a new experience. Just 100 feet difference. Unfortunately, after some considerable time, we gave up. Micros are creeping in everywhere and they are taking their toll on the experience. We were concerned with tearing apart the wall which seemed the likely place for the cache. I suspect the coordinates for this one are loose.

After this, we drove over to the Cranberry Dam cache. This was smack in the middle of very familiar territory, yet, I had never been here. I like caches like that. Ski’s Jeep got me closer than my car would have ever gotten me. I carefully traversed the dam and got to the area quickly. It was a beautiful fall morning. Crisp air, clear skies. I like days like this.

We drove from here over to the Burnt Sienna cache. Down Quaker Bridge to Pine Swamp. Then we found a crossover road (not listed on our maps) to Straight Road. I am pretty sure we took the most direct route from the area we were coming from. We parked on the road and hoofed it the 200′ to the cache. It seems like reception is not great right here, but it would be difficult to miss the large bundle of wood covering the cache. Ski remarked how quiet it was out here. Indeed it was.

We left the Pines at this point and headed north to themagician’s new cache. Sigh . . . a kid’s playground looked to be the way in. We continued down the road and again drove to within a few hundred feet. This cache was placed at a beer drinking spot with cans and other debris all about. Ski found this one.

Then it was south to Cooper River. A cache with a transparency for a log sheet.

Then we struck out a second time for the day. That doesn’t happen too often. We found ourselves back to Knight Park. The new multi seems to begin where the old cache was hidden. There’s only so much searching you can do with everyone about. I like this park, but it is so difficult to cache without drawing attention. Oh well . . .

From there it was to the Delaware River. I like the view from here, but it’s another area with lots of garbage. I saw a plane coming in for a landing from here.

We finished the day in Mantua. I didn’t realize we were going to this park. It was far busier today than the other day I was here for the coffee cache. This was the largest cache I have found to date. To be truthful, Ski found it. Lots of goodies inside.

We ran out of time to attempt Mickey’s new one. Since I will need to get up here for the Kinght’s Treasure Too cache, once I decide to tackle it again, I can pick Mickey’s up then.

Also blogged on this date . . .
