Emptiness
A guitar case—it’s empty
I think it is anyhow—it doesn’t matter
But why empty?
Why is anything empty?
The reason is
There is none—well, that’s not quite it
Emptiness is just a product of our expectations
If we expect or long for something we only end up empty
Nothing can be as good as our dreams
And with that, I’m resigned to live for the moment
Don’t look ahead
Don’t think about May 10th—it’ll leave me empty
I’m here now—that’s what is good
Tomorrow—well, I’ll deal with that tomorrow
Spanish—I’ll get to it when the time calls for it
And I ask myself “Can I be happy this way?”
Sure—don’t face mounds with frowns
Look at it as a challenge
And then meet that challenge
With this happiness comes
Anything else will lead me to being empty
No guitar to soothe my emptiness
I haven’t looked ahead—I can’t be disappointed
