Another 100,000 person extravaganza!
We were just graduated from high school and the summer hadn’t quite gotten in gear. The week before, Oli and I had a fun run down in Ocean City, MD with a hungover ferry ride back listening to the Indy 500. This concert was another one of the things we did to keep busy.
The bill of this show was most definitely an Oli show. I was not a huge fan of any of the bands, but looked forward to the day nontheless.
Bryan Adams put on a good show. He was an up and coming act and he did a good job. We positioned ourselves in the very far end of the stadium. We were probably a half mile from the stage. I think we saw Sammy Hagar from there too. He too put on a good show. Very good straight ahead rock. You have to like that.
For The Tubes, we moved up. We found some people who allowed us to join their blankets. The Tubes are an acquired taste. That taste never quite appealed to me. Although this did permit me to see Vince long before he joined the Dead.
John Cougar (before he added Mellencamp back) was also good. It was raining during his set. Someone threw something on stage and he screamed something like If you throw another fucking thing up here, I am going to come out there and scalp you myself.
By the time Journey came on, we were up very close with a throng pushing in. We had baked in the sun all day long. There was a group of 12-year olds near us drinking and acting stupid. We were spent and intolerable of these youngsters. Journey was better than I had expected. Faithfully was a highlight. I recall someone tossed a baseball cap on stage which landed on the neck of Neil Schon’s guitar. He left it there through whatever song that was.
I have a copy of Journey’s set on a CD around here somewhere.

I was there on the left side of the stage at the wall. Most fun I ever had at a concert. A blast, thanks for the reminder!
